The coyote (Canis
latrans) is found in central and north America, from Panama to Alaska. Although
heavily persecuted in the past by hunting and still unpopular with farmers, the
coyote is an enterprising, adaptable and intelligent animal. From a distance the
more heavily furred mountain subspecies are often mistaken for wolves, but can
be distinguished by their lighter build and more delicate, pointed face.
